Chilean and French work together on new formula to fight type-I diabetes

A Chilean research team directed by Alexis Kalergis, academic of UC and Millennium Institute on Immunology and Immunotherapy (IMII) director, is working since 10 years on an enzyme called Heme-Oxygenase-1 (HO-1). This molecule can counteract various autoimmune diseases, such as lupus and type-I diabetes. Researches expect to perform the first clinical assay in humans, thanks to an alliance with the the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale of France.
